How useful is it? In fact, all my attempts to see it as a replacement for my MacBook have failed until now. OK, you can write emails, documents and what not, but I’m no way as “productive” as I am on a full-fledged notebook, with its ergonomic keyboard, and on which I can quickly move between applications with cmd-TAB. But I’m still adapting, and I’m learning every day. Mindmaps look promising on a touchscreen.

So I don’t think it’ll replace my MacBook. But it is a nice extension, and it does already start to replace “paper books”, magazines and newspapers in the best possible way. The new Kindle app comes with a free English dictionary. Click on a word and you’ll find its meaning at the bottom of the page. I wonder what it will be like to read the entire Bleak House on the iPad, though.

The shiny touchscreen is like a reflective pond into which you throw coins. I don’t dare to add the individual seemingly small amounts I’ve spent on apps.

I’ve even seen a RegExPad app for 99 cents – for “evaluating and learning” regular expressions.
